A Tour Guide's Perspective

We asked one of our tour guides, Christian to answer some questions about Fargo Segway! Christian graduated from Concordia College with a degree is Communication Studies and Heritage & Museum Studies. When not researching real estate around Minnesota, you can find Christian at our store cleaning segways, drinking coffee, and scrolling through Instagram.

What is your favorite tour and why?

My favorite tour is the Fargo/Moorhead History tour because I love sharing all the little nuggets of the history of these two cities with our guests. I also did a project in college recording people’s memories of Fargo and Moorhead, so you could say I love history.

What is your favorite part about being a segway tour guide?

My favorite part about being a segway tour guide is meeting the guests who come on tour. Everyone has a story to tell and sometimes guests have stories about Fargo that they share with us!

Since everyone asks, how easy is it to ride a segway?

Very easy. A lot of our guests are very nervous to ride a segway, but I (and every other guide) have never not succeeded at teaching someone how to ride.

Why did you become a segway tour guide?

I became a segway tour guide because I love segwaying, meeting new people, and sharing the history of the F-M area.

What is your favorite thing to do in Fargo/Moorhead?

My favorite thing to do in Fargo/Moorhead is to go for a run along the river and then stop at Youngblood for a latte and a piece of avocado toast.

Tour Spotlight: Food Tour

Love food? Yeah, we do too. That’s why we created a one-of-a-kind food tour of Fargo! We’ve worked with a number of downtown restaurants to bring you samples of their hottest product. While you don’t get a whole meal with this tour, we guarantee that you’ll leave full and wanting to go back and try more goodness.

Now, because most of these restaurants are in close proximity to one another, in addition to going to all of the restaurants, your guide will take you on a tour of the neighborhoods surrounding downtown to give guests a flavor of the history in the surrounding area.

Here are a few* of the restaurants that might be featured on your tour! *Note: restaurants featured on each tour is subject to change due to restaurant availability.

 Rhombus Guys is an area favorite. Located right on Main Ave., it attracts a big crowd in the summer for their rooftop deck. Be sure to stop by next Saturday night to check out Karaoke!

 The HoDo is a historical landmark. Artisan cuisine and top-of-the-line spirits with art deco decor create a lively atmosphere every night of the week.

 No Bull Smokehouse is any meat lover's dream. Served family style, No Bull brings good northern barbecue flavor to Fargo.

 Sandys is the unofficial donut of Fargo. Located right next to the Fargo Theatre on Broadway, Sandys Donuts has not only become a Saturday morning staple for most families, but also a Friday staple in many offices around the community.

 Vinyl Taco serves fresh mexican street food to all those 21+. You can't get tacos if you're under 21 anywhere else than on our segway tour!

Wurst Bier Hall combines industrial decor with german pub food. Not only is their beer good, but also their sausages! Next time you stop in, be sure to try "The Boot".

Moorhead History Highlights

Here are Five Interesting City of Moorhead Facts!

1. Moorhead was founded in 1871 and named after William G. Moorhead, a director of the Northern Pacific Railway.

2. Moorhead used to be called “sin city” because there were over 100 bars at a time when Fargo didn’t offer the sale of alcohol.

3. The Moorhead Armory was the destination for Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper
before their plane crashed in Iowa on February 3, 1959 on their way to perform a concert. The building was demolished in 1990.

4. The Moorhead Dairy Queen still operates from a contract signed in 1949, which allows them to serve treats not approved by corporate including curly shakes, chipper sandwiches, and monkey tails.

5. Moorhead is the home to four higher education institutions: Minnesota State University Moorhead, founded in 1888, Concordia College, founded in 1891, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, opened in 2003, and Rasmussen College, opening in Moorhead in 2008.

Tour Spotlight: River Tour

The mighty Red River of the North is a feature point for the neighboring communities of Fargo/Moorhead. Not only does it provide a border, but has also had a long history in shaping the towns we see today. On this tour, guests will hear about the history of the Red River, why it doesn’t flow south, as well as a history of the prominent floods that have affected this region.

The Red River offers many opportunities for walking along the trails, kayaking down the river, fishing, and many other activities during the summer and fall. 

The Red River has had many notable floods since long before they were recorded. Since the 1800's there have been over 18 notable floods. Most notably, the floods of 1997, 2009, and 2011 were devastating for the communities of Fargo/Moorhead. 

The winters in Fargo/Moorhead are particularly harsh with snowfall and cold temperatures. How bad of a flood the area will face in the spring is oftentimes associated with how fast it got cold in the fall, how much snow the area gets, and how rapid the melt is in the spring.
